Hospice warehouse man and delivery driver Kevin had not been running for years before he decided to take on a 10k race for Nottinghamshire Hospice, raising more than £800 to help patients.

Kevin, who hung up his running shoes after developing arthritis in one of his legs, was inspired to run for the hospice after his mother was cared for by a hospice in York before she died earlier this year.

Kevin says: “Seeing how they looked after my mum inspired me to raise money for the hospice that I work for. I’m absolutely over the moon to be able to make this kind of contribution.”

Kevin received lots of support and sponsorship from colleagues at the hospice and from wife Donna who supported him on his training sessions.

Kevin added “I used to run half marathons but the arthritis has made it more difficult. I was careful with my training, saving my legs for race day! On the day I was carried along by the spirit of the people around me. It was a really good atmosphere.”

Anita Harris, Head of Fundraising at Nottinghamshire Hospice said: “We’re so impressed with Kevin for taking on this running challenge, he is an inspiration! The money he has raised will go to help patients in the last year of their lives.”

Nottinghamshire Hospice needs £2.7 million each year to carry out its work caring for patients and their families across the county. This year it aims to raise £50,000 through a series of charity challenges ranging from skydives and running events to a trek up Kilimanjaro or along the Great Wall of China.
