Vehicle Checks Volunteer
As a Vehicle Checks Volunteer, you’ll be helping to ensure that our transport fleet is fully operational for our hospice staff to visit patients and families out in the community. Keeping our vehicles in safe working order, means that we can provide our end-of-life care to the people who need us and deliver our hospice services with greater effect. By volunteering with us, you’d be helping to make a difference.

What you’ll be doing
Vehicle Checks Volunteers support the Facilities and Transport Department with various tasks to help with the upkeep of our small vehicle fleet activities. You will volunteer alongside our experienced team of staff and volunteers in this department. The role includes the following:
Conduct Vehicle Checks:
- Oil and fluid levels checks and top-ups
- Tyre pressure checks
- Light checks and bulb changes
- Tool kit checks
- First Aid kit checks
- Documentation checks
- Fuel card checks
Vehicle Valet:
- Jet wash and clean exteriors
- Hoover and clean interiors
- Refuelling, if required
Vehicle Documentation:
- Assisting with MOT and Tax checks on GOV.UK
- Assisting in booking of services and MOTs
- Collecting and filing of weekly fuel receipts and management checks
Who we’re looking for…
We’re looking for enthusiastic people who have a basic working knowledge of vehicle upkeep and a willingness to carry out the tasks above.
You’ll also need to:
- Hold a full UK driving license with Cat B (car, light goods up to 3,000Kg)
- Have no more than 6 penalty points on a full UK driving license
- Be able to use Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Be confident in using the internet
- Be self-motivated
- Be able to carry out tasks with minimum supervision (though access to support and supervision whilst volunteering will be available)
- Be a team player
- Be reliable, flexible and use initiative
- Be 18 years or older
What you’ll get out of it
You’ll be making a difference to people’s lives as well and giving something back to the community. In your Vehicle Checks role, you will develop new and existing skills, which could improve your confidence and employability. Volunteering is great way to meet new people and feel valued.

You’ll need to be aged 18 or over and undergo a clear DBS check, prior to you starting. This will be explained when you apply.
