Handyperson

Volunteer Handypersons are needed to help with the heavy jobs at Nottinghamshire Hospice.

What you’ll be doing

Typical jobs you may be asked to help with include;

• Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
• Painting of fencing and benches
• Moving heavy items around the hospice, including patient equipment
• Helping to clear non-patient areas such as the cellar
• Assisting with office moves
• Painting and decorating
• Use of electrical tools (training can be provided if needed)

Who we’re looking for

As a Volunteer Handyperson you need to be:

• 18 or over
• Willing to be part of a team and to be reliable and flexible
• Willing to take direction from a staff member
• Willing to work alone
• Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality
• Able to use their initiative
• Reasonably fit

Commitment

  • Flexible – by agreement
  • To undertake a Criminal Records (DBS) disclosure every 3 years

Induction and Training

All volunteers are invited to an induction session to meet the executive team and learn about the hospice. The volunteers at the Hospice are valued greatly and so they are supported by an appointed manager at the Hospice. There will be a settling in period to support you into the role and on-going support as required. There will also be an opportunity to develop the role further dependent on each individual’s strengths, interests, and availability.

Expenses/Reimbursements

  • We reimburse petrol/bus fare to and from the hospice.
  • We will cover the cost of the DBS check
