Anna's Curry for a Cause raises £53K+
Hospice supporter Anna Burrows has raised more than £53,000 for the hospice by organising twice-yearly curry lunches for more than a decade.
Anna started fundraising after the hospice cared for her mother Cecilia in 2004. Hospice at Home support enabled Cecilia to achieve her wish of dying at home with family around her.
Anna said: “I don’t know what we would have done without the support from the hospice. That’s why I started fundraising to help this great local charity.”
Her popular curry lunches at Nottingham’s Laguna Tandoori Restaurant cater for around 110 diners and include a three-course meal with wine plus an auction and raffle to raise funds for the hospice. She has also garnered support from numerous companies, bars and restaurants in the area who have donated prizes.
Local businesses who have supported Anna’s recent event include Michael Levin Jewellers who donated a £1,000 voucher, Slater Menswear who donated a £100 voucher and Lidl who contributed festive food for the hamper. Restaurants and bars who contributed include La Capanna, Le Petit Paris, Laguna, Cod’s Scallops, Le Mistral, Pillar Box and the Crimson Tree who all donated vouchers.
Gemma Taylor-Mahon, Fundraising Manager at Nottinghamshire Hospice, said: “Anna’s generosity and dedication for so many years has been outstanding. It highlights how the Nottinghamshire Hospice makes a significant difference to people’s lives.
“The astonishing amount of money Anna has raised is a testament to her hard work and ability to host a brilliantly successful event. We are incredibly grateful for her continued support. We are also very grateful for all those companies who have supported the event by donating prizes.”
